Course Description

Morning Session

FHA 2010 Update

Don Hill, SRA, Hill Appraisal Services, Inc.

Don is a Certified General appraiser in the State of Washington, an Appraisal Institute SRA designee, an AQB Certified USPAP instructor, Washington Real Estate Broker and a Certified Washington State instructor. His experience includes appraising residential and commercial properties and teaching real estate and appraisal classes. Don has been teaching FHA Classes for other organizations and now brings his knowledge and experience to our North Sound Chapter.

FHA has insured nearly a quarter of all new loans made in 2009. Whether you want to become an FHA appraiser or have years of experience, this FHA Update class will help you stay on top of continually changing requirements.

  • How to keep current with FHA policy changes and property requirements and how to use HUDClips
  • The importance of Mortgagee Letters and Appendix D of the 4150.2 Handbook for Appraisers
  • Property requirement for residential properties – existing, proposed, and new construction for mortgages to be insured by FHA
  • How to complete an onsite inspection including lead base paint requirements according to FHA’s policy
  • How to recognize property conditions that would indicate a home inspection will be required
  • How to complete an FHA appraisal for single family, manufactured homes, and condominiums according to FHA protocol

Education credits

This program was developed and is administered by the Seattle Chapter. Attendees are eligible to receive 4 hours Appraisal Institute CE credit and WA state credit.

Appraising Northwest Energy Star Homes: The Impact of Energy Efficient Homes on our Industry

Pam Worner, Founder, Green Dog Enterprises, Inc.  

Pam has been certified as a third-party verifier for the Northwest ENERGY STAR® Homes program, six different Built Green® programs and the nation-wide National Green Building Standard™. Pam has 15 years of experience in the building industry, including serving as Director of Sales & Marketing for the Master Builders Association of King & Snohomish Counties. Green Dog’s client list features more than 40 builders, developers, and architects throughout the Puget Sound region, along with award-winning demonstration projects “The Built Green Home at Suncadia” and “Going Green at the Beach.”

North Sound Branch Chapter Lunch Meeting

Following the FHA morning session and prior to the afternoon Northwest Energy Star seminar there will be a North Sound Branch Chapter Lunch Meeting. Lunch is included when you register for one or both of the seminars.


Attendance Requirements
100% attendance is required for all Appraisal Institute education programs. This follows Appraiser Qualifications Board minimum criteria requirements. A “classroom hour” is defined as 50 minutes out of each 60 minute segment. A 10-minute break per hour is allowed and a student would still meet the 100% attendance requirement. Students should not be late or leave early; if they are late or leave early, they will not receive credit.


Cancellation Policy
• Up to 15 days prior to program start date, $50 cancellation fee.
• 2-14 days prior to program start date, $75 cancellation fee.
• Less than 2 days prior to program start date, forfeit of payment unless a student replacement is provided.

We reserve the right to cancel, limit, or reschedule the course and change faculty assignments and facility locations at any time.
